Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Visits Guizhou Machinery Industry School

On August 2nd, a delegation led by Sok An, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, and his wife, visited Guizhou Machinery Industry School. Chen Mingming, Vice Governor of Guizhou Province, as well as leaders of Guizhou Machinery Industry School and Management Committee of Qingzhen Zhijiao City receivedthe foreign guests with warm welcome. 

Chen Mingming briefed Sok An Guizhou’s vocational education. Chen said, as Guizhou’s economy ranked low in China, the provincial government decided to achieve economy graowth through educationaldeveloment, with priority in vocational education. After years of development, vocational schools had established cooperation with factories. Meanwhile, majors were set up according to industrial demands, which made it easy for graduates to find jobs. Chen stressed that Guizhou was the first to implement the “9+3” plan (9 years compulsory education plus 3years free secondary vocational education) and to draw up the plan for vocational education development, greatly improving Guizhou’s vocational teaching standard.  

Wu Binru, president of Guizhou Machinery Industry School introduced to Sok An the “shadow president” project with British vocational schools as well as the apprenticeship learning from British, dual system from Germany and CBE (Competency-Based Education) from Canada. As Sok An was interested in the school’s cooperation with companies, Wu also introduced to him the cooperation methods, government’s support and win-win results. Sok An also visited intelligent classrooms, laser-printing and 3D-printing teaching areas and national numerical control training base for vocational education. Sok An spoke highly of the school’s educational reform and the spirit of teachers and students.

On August 3rd to 7th, the 8th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week will open at Guiyang International Eco-Conference Center. It is hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Guizhou Provincial Government, and co-organized by Ministry of Commerce, the Communist Youth League, ASEAN-China Center and Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization. More than 1200 guests, with over 400 foreigners, will attend the meeting. Foreign guests include senior politicians of ASEAN countries, ambassadors to China, officials from Ministries of Education of ASEAN countries, presidents, scholars, international students, heads of international organizations, officials of Ministries of Education and presidents from Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Switzerland. Chinese guests included leaders of national ministries, ambassadors to ASEAN, heads of some provincial (municipal, district) departments of education, presidents, leaders of Guizhou Province and the Provincial Departments, and some scholars and college student representatives.
