ASEAN-China Young Education Official Forum Held at Guiyang University

On Sept. 16th, 2013, the ASEAN-China Young Education Official Forum was held at Guiyang University as one of the events in the 6th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW). The forum was hosted by Guiyang University with the support of Guizhou Provincial Department of Education of and Beijing Foreign Studies University.


 

The theme of the forum was “The Role of the Youth and their Future Development”.Sun Xuejing, an educational official from ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), chaired the forum. Participants were the young officials from ASEAN and Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (DICE) of Ministry of Education (MOE). The Chinese participants included Yang Yong, Party Member of the Department of Education of Guizhou Province, leaders from Guiyang University, and representatives from the Department of Education of Guizhou Province, the Youth League Committee of Guizhou Province, Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office, the Education Bureau of Guiyang, the Youth League Committee of Guiyang, municipal colleges and universities of Guiyang, and some media in Guiyang city.


 

Professor Meng Qiuming, Secretary of the Party Committee of Guiyang University, delivered a welcome speech. He made a brief introduction to Guiyang University and voiced his hope for more cooperation and a great success of the forum.


 

Mao Dongmin, Deputy Director of the International Students Office of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (DICE), first made a speech on the current situation and future development of ASEAN students studying in China. He reviewed and thought highly of the fruitful educational exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN. There is great potential for future cooperation, said he.


 

Afterwards, some officials from Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (DICE) of the Ministry of Education of P. R. China, including Tang Zhenfu from the Division of International Schooling, Wang Xiaoyu from the Division of Policy Planning, Gao Shang,from the Division of International Studies, Fang Bin from the Division of Asian and African Affairs, delivered speeches respectively entitled The Policies and Future Development of the Transnational Education Cooperation of China, The Education System of China and its Development, Current Situation and Future Development of Chinese Students in ASEAN Countries, and ASEAN-China Education Cooperation and the Future Development. They all regarded CAECW as an effective exchange platform in China’s opening-up in education with outstanding achievements over the years, and encouraged more Chinese universities to take part in it.

 

After the tea break, education officials from ASEAN countries like Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Burma, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand expressed their opinions on the relationship between the role of the youth and the future development of the country.


 

The final keynote speech was given by Professor Meng Junyi, Vice Dean of Foreign Languages Department of Guiyang University, on the important role the youth played in the development of higher education. She shared her unforgettable study experience in an ASEAN country and appreciated the future education cooperation between China and ASEAN. What’s more, she took the improvement of Guiyang University as an example to show the necessity to enhance the quality education of the youth in the future development of higher education.
 

Rong Shu’nan, Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, made a conclusion on the forum.
